Trae Dorn Forums happen because we make them happen -- and o matter what, I'm here at least. 🙂 I'm trying my best to get these going just because I'm a firm believer in decentralizing the internet.
Yes, yes, but I have never been a "we", it's a persistent failing on my part. Yet, I keep trying.
I'm going to own up to my personal interest in BS, I hope it's not very incendiary. I'm curious if anybody has similar beliefs and situations.
First of all, I started my interest in occult in the 90's and the appropriation discussion just wasn't happening much back then. Without advertising/propagating specifics my mind really took to a tradition of mysticism that is often cited now-days as appropriation. I think there's a lot of grey area in my area, but that's besides the point, the point is that it's a fundamental building block in my brain. I honestly think it kind of sucks that there can't be a bit more nuance around certain subjects, but as PoC, I'm kind of okay with some of the slightly problematic babies going out with the bathwater.
And Second, I actually think some forms of BS are unavoidable in magic. I truly believe that effecting magical change requires perception shifts, and well, and Truth is often the dead-weight in the process. And also some powerful magical components are things like purposefully invoking falsehoods and perversity, it's powerful stuff, and even calling out BS is a form of gatekeeping. That being said, I'm interested in Wicca, not Thelema, so I think some paths to power maybe need not be trod, and perhaps it's a good idea to put a few rope gates around them.
