Have you ever bounced off?

So when I was 15-17ish I tried reading Dune.
I just could NOT get into it.
Years later I wanted to understand my friends’ excitement, so I watched the 2021 film and I finally was able to start to understand it.

Now I’m listening to an audiobook of it and for whatever reason I’m able to engage way WAY better with the audio version.

Have you ever had a piece of media you bounced off of hard only to return to it and really like it?

I bounced off the book when I tried it at 19. The audiobook really helped me get what the book was going for.

For us it's less 'bounced off' and more 'finally able to get into', but this happened to us with both Percy Jackson and Hunger Games.

We missed out on both for various reasons, but in recent years we've been able to discover both series in our own time.

Percy Jackson was particularly ironic though, since one of the reasons we missed out on it the first time was because of our (then unknown) dyslexia.

Audiobooks have been an absolute life-changer in that department. We've gone from not reading books at all to averaging about one a month. Love it. 🙏

We'll definitely add Dune to the list, too. It's just our current To-Read list is already quite long. 😅

Arrow is really the only show I can think of off the top of my head that I initially completely bounced off that I later came back to and enjoyed.

Most of the time when I go back and retry something I didn't like the first time... I end up having the same opinion when I go back to it.
